t ensued was a frenetic scramble by those in close proximity to the body of the 16th president of the United States, the crime scene, and the D.C. boarding house in which he died. Out came the shears to clip his hair. The rocking chair in which he was sitting at Ford’s Theatre when he was shot? Chopped into bits. The sheets on the bed (and the bed itself) in which he died? Ditto.
